Dance Shoes
Dance shoes come in a variety of different looks and styles.
Because there are many different types of dance, there are also many
different types of shoes. Specific shoes are worn for certain events.
There are shoes for salsa, tango, jazz, tap, and ballet just to name
a few. Some of the footwear may be similar to others and is often not
a necessary purchase, but it often helps the movement be more specific
to the dance.
Dance shoes are required for some activities. For example, in ballet
there would be no way to study en pointe without a pair of pointe shoes.
This hard-toed stiff-shankled footwear enables a dancer to elevate to
their tiptoes for a dance. Similarly, jazz dancers need to have footwear
that offers support, flexibility, and stability to be able to jump and
twist and turn during routines. You cant "tap" dance without
tap shoes, and many professional dancers prefer
stilettos when preforming.
Along with dance shoes, one may need to purchase certain attire. There
are dances that require a definite look such as Ballet. One would need
to buy a leotard as well as tights and a tutu. Although some dances
don’t demand specific attire, clothing should often be worn to
fit into the mood and feel of a piece. A hip-hop dance may not look
right if the dancers were to be wearing skirts and high heels, whereas
looser fitting attire and sneakers may be more appropriate.
